The theatre of dreams are confident of securing a pen to paper deal for Paris-Saint Germain defender Marquinhos in a £50 million move this summer.
According to Mirror the Brazilian has been labelled as United’s top defensive target by Mourinho and, while PSG may not want to sell the Brazilian, the Red Devils will offer a persuasive financial package to convince them to succumb to the transfer offer.
United will need to add centre-backs to their squad in the transfer window as Smalling and Jones’ respective futures at united are far from certain. The English pair have been criticised by Mourinho for failing to push to return from injury.
Marcos Rojo is also recently out injured which leaves just Eric Bailly as United’s only fit centre-back.
Mourinho is eager to sign a battling centre-back who is willing to put his body on the line for the team and the Brazilian certainly fits that role.
With United now strengthening their interest the pressure is on Marquinhos – who is keen on playing in the Premier League – to push PSG to set him free.
However, while Mourinho is keen on the move, the stats show that Marquinhos has not quite matched up to the current united defenders when it comes to certain functions.
He currently sits fourth place for interceptions played and for total duels won as well, although Marquinhos has averaged the highest pass accuracy for the group class.
Such stats may come from a less demanding season in Ligue 1 for Marquinhos however as the English premier league seems more competitive.
